We, a 46-year-old husband and 48-year-old wife, would like to share with you our sweet home.
M’S Designさんと家づくり ：Building a house with M’S Design
私たち夫婦は40代半ば過ぎに家を建てることを決めました。
長年インテリアが趣味だった私たちが家づくりをお願いしたのは、M’S Designという工務店さんです。
大阪府高槻市にある工務店さんです。
とても素敵な感性と情熱をお持ちです。
私たちとM’S Designさんの二人三脚で作った一をご紹介します。

We decided to build a house when we were past our mid-40s.
We have enjoyed interior design for many years, and we asked a construction company called M’S Design to help us build our house.
This construction company is located in Takatsuki City, Osaka.
They have a very nice sensitivity and passion.
Here is one that we and M’S Design built together.
外観 ：the exterior
雰囲気：atmosphere
私が家づくりで重視したものは雰囲気です。
そして私がこの家でとにかく好きなところは、この雰囲気です。
新築ですがどこか古めかしい。
私はよそ様の素敵なおうちを見た時に、どんな人がここに住んでいるんだろうとすごく気になります。
素敵なおうちを見るたびにわくわくしています。
もし自分の家をも見ても、そんなふうにわくわくしそうです。
茶色とオフホワイトのおうちです。
屋根は切妻型。
2階の方が1階よりもせり出しているデザインです。
総2階の家はのっぺりとした外観になりがちですが、M’S Designさんがこのように2階を少し出してくれたおかげで、脱のっぺり感に成功しました。
とても趣のある雰囲気になりました。
お気に入りの外観です。
What I focused on in building the house was the atmosphere.
And what I like about this house anyway is the atmosphere.
It is newly built but somehow old-fashioned.
When I see other people’s beautiful homes, I wonder what kind of people live here.
I get excited every time I see a beautiful home.
If I saw my own house, I would be excited like that.
It is a brown and off-white house.
The roof is gable-shaped.
The second floor is more overhanging than the first floor.
A two-story house tends to have a flimsy appearance, but M’S Design succeeded in making it look less flimsy by making the second floor protrude a little.
It has a very quaint atmosphere.
This is my favorite exterior.
サイディング：the siding
私のお気に入りの1つにサイディングがあります。
白と茶色のコントラスト。
サイディングの継ぎ目があまりわからないですね!?
特に2階部分のオフホワイトの部分。
これはLIXILの和ボーダーです。
立体的です。
立体的なサイディングは継ぎ目が目立ちにくいそうです。
LIXILの和ボーダー、おすすめです。

One of my favorites is the siding.
The contrast between the white and brown.
And you can barely tell the seams in the siding!
Especially the off-white part on the second floor.
This is LIXIL’s Japanese border.
It is three-dimensional.
The three-dimensional siding is said to make the joints less noticeable.
We recommend LIXIL’s Japanese border.
バルコニーのスクリーン : the balcony screens
我が家のバルコニーは真向かいのバルコニーと距離が近いので、バルコニーのスクリーンは目隠しにもなります。
これも実際に設置してみると思っていた以上に素敵でした。
実用性とオシャレを兼ね備えた優秀なものだと思います。

Our balcony is very close to the balcony directly across the street, so the balcony screen also serves as a blindfold.
When we actually installed this one, it was even nicer than we had expected.
I think it is an excellent combination of practicality and stylishness.
シンボルツリー : the symbol tree
外から帰ってきた時にほっとできる光景、自分の家に温かさを加えてくれるものが欲しかった。
シンボルツリーはコンクリート打ちっぱなしの外構に唯一自然を感じられるものです。
植えてもらった後の光景を見て、びっくりしました。
想像以上に素敵でした。
深い緑のかわいい葉っぱ。
赤い実もつけるそうです。
ソヨゴという木です。
私の愛しのシンボルツリーです。

I wanted something that would add warmth to my home, a sight that would make me feel at ease when I came home from outside.
The symbol tree is the only thing that gives a sense of nature to the poured concrete exterior.
I was amazed at the sight after having it planted.
It was even nicer than I had imagined.
Cute deep green leaves.
It also produces red berries.
It is a tree called Soyogo.
It is my beloved symbolic tree.
インテリア : the interior
私は20年以上賃貸暮らしでしたが、ずっとインテリアが大好きで家具や照明を集めてきました。
誕生日や祝い事の時には、いつも主人に家具などインテリアに関するものをプレゼントしてきてもらいました。
20数年インテリアに没頭した私の半生が反映されるようなインテリアにしたかった。
そんな家具たちが引き立つようにシンプルにしました。

I have been a renter for over 20 years and have always loved interior design and have collected furniture and lighting.
For birthdays and celebrations, my husband has always given me furniture and other interior design related items.
I wanted the interior to reflect my half of my life, which has been devoted to interior design for more than 20 years.
I chose a simple design to complement such furniture.
玄関 ：the entrance hall
玄関を入ったところのホールです。
床の茶色と壁とドアの白。
大好きな色です。
昼間の玄関もいいですが、夜になって明かりがともた時の雰囲気も素敵だろうな。

This is the hall as you enter the front door.
The brown of the floor and the white of the walls and door.
These are my favorite colors.
The entrance hall is nice in the daytime, but the atmosphere at night when the lights are on must be wonderful, too.
キッチン : the kitchen
白くて使いやすいキッチン。
私は背が低いので、吊戸棚は使いません。
また食洗器も使いません。
なので最初から導入しませんでした。
不要なものがないキッチンです。
潔い選択ができたと思います。

The kitchen is white and easy to use.
I am short so I don’t use the hanging cupboards.
I also don’t use a dishwasher.
So I didn’t install them from the beginning.
There is nothing unnecessary in this kitchen.
I think I was able to make a clear-cut choice.
リビング : the living room
シンプルなリビング。
私はインテリアが好きなので、あえてシンプルにしました。
この20数年好みがガラッと変わったことが何度もありました。
これからも変わるかもしれません。
そんな私の変遷に対応してくれるようなリビングにしました。

A simple living room.
I love interior design and I dare to keep it simple.
There have been many times in the past 20+ years that my tastes have changed completely.
They may continue to change in the future.
I made this living room to accommodate these transitions in my tastes.
洗面所 : the washroom
緑色のへリンボーンの床。
ここだけは少し色を使ってみました。
テイストが違うと新鮮な感じがします。
白い洗面台と相まって、爽やかな空間になりました。

Different tastes give a fresh feeling.

吹付断熱 : sprayed insulation
私はとても寒がりです。
実際に生活する上で心地よくなるものは取り入れたい。
金額は張りますが、吹付断熱を導入しました。
建設中に家の中に入ると、真夏でも外に比べるとだいぶ涼しく感じられました。
大工さんも「吹付断熱は絶対にいい」と力強く言っておられました。

I don’t like cold weather.
I want to incorporate things that will actually make my life more comfortable.
Although the cost was higher, we installed sprayed insulation.
When I went inside the house during construction, it felt much cooler than outside, even in mid-summer.
The carpenter also said emphatically, “Sprayed insulation is definitely good.
耐震等級3 ： earthquake resistance grade 3
地震大国である日本では必要だと思います。
安心して住みたいのでこれもマストです。

I think this is necessary in earthquake-prone Japan.
This is also a must because we want to live in a safe and secure environment.
インナーバルコニーの天窓 : the inner balcony skylight
インナーバルコニーを日当たりをよくし、洗濯物を乾きやすくしたい。
そういう思いで設置しました。
そして、当初の予想以上に、私の一番のお気に入りの場所になりました。
広くて明るいバルコニー。
天窓は思っていた以上に素敵でした。

We want to increase the sunlight on the inner balcony and make it easier to dry the laundry.
That’s what I had in mind when I installed it.
And, beyond my initial expectations, it has become my favorite place.

シュークローク : the shoe closet
玄関を美しく保ちたいのでシュークロークを設けました。

We want to keep the entrance beautiful, so we added a shoe closet.
おわりに : in the end
あと３週間で引っ越しです。
いろいろな方とのご縁でこの愛しのDream Houseが出来上がりました。
今までのすべての経験や出会った方々、ありがとうございました。
We are moving in three weeks.
We have been able to make this beloved Dream House with the help of many different people.
